Brought up in Bedford, Paul's career path included jobs as varied as a librarian, chimney-sweep, bird-scarcer, musician, playwright, actor, journalist, stage hand and primary school teacher before in 2005 turning to stand-up comedy on the advice of his therapist. Paul distinctive skewed view of the world informs his black, ‘sub–urban’ comedy. His intelligent humour focuses not only on sharp observations from life, but also racial, cultural and satirical subjects, intermingled with strange tales of ordinary madness. Stand-UpPaul is now in demand as an MC and act in prestigious London venues like the Comedy Store (London & Manchester), Comedy Café, Banana Cabaret, Outside The Box, Downstairs At The Kings Head, Bearcat Comedy, Falling Down With Laughter, Hampstead Comedy Club, Crack Comedy Clubs and Brixton Comedy, as well as The Stand, Highlight, Barnstormers Comedy, The Comedy Club Ltd, Off The Kerb Clubs, Alan Anderson Ha Ha Comedy, Funhouse Comedy Clubs, Just The Tonic (London & Nottingham), Glee Comedy Clubs, Frog & Bucket, Manchester, Gagging For Laughs, Growling Clown Clubs, Buzz Comedy Clubs, Last Minute Comedy Clubs and Mirth Control comedy clubs across the UK.Festivals Paul co-hosted his first Edinburgh fringe show - 'Peter Friends' at the Roxy Art House. Part of a late night show as part of the Laughing Horse free festival, performed at the Smirnoff Underbelly and MC-d 'Pretty Dirty Things' which received a 4 star review from ONE4REVIEW.COM. Paul hosted 'Up The Arts Comedy Lock-In' to packed audience as part of the PBH Free Fringe and performed his first solo hour show 'Paul Ricketts & Buff Wood - Wood Pushers' awarded 5 stars from THREE WEEKS. Paul's Edinburgh show 'Cutter’s Choice’ went on to be performed in Islington schools as part of their Black History Month Events, The Hen & Chickens Theatre, London, Leicester and Brighton Fringe Festivals - winning the FRINGE GURU EDITOR'S CHOICE AWARD 2010. Also performed in 2011 as part of the 'Art As A Weapon' black history festival at Theatro Technis, London. Paul's Edinburgh show 'Kiss The Badge, Fly The Flag!' received the 'Must See' award from THE STAGE, 5 stars from REMOTEGOAT.CO.UK and 4 stars from THREE WEEKS.
